Coolangatta Gold 2018

Australia’s most prestigious Ironman event returns this winter! The COOLANGATTA GOLD is a huge annual sporting event that takes place on the Gold Coast’s Coolangatta Beach, which invites the most dedicated surf lifesavers from all over Australia to compete in a number of challenging courses. It proves as one of the most challenging yearly events for Aussie life savers, and enjoys one of the best backdrops in all of Australia: the Gold Coast!

The Coolangatta Gold became an official event in 1984, taking inspiration from the famous movie The Coolangatta Gold, and is now hailed as one of the best surf lifesaving events in the world. Passionate life savers and athletes are welcome to join in the challenging 41.8km race, that takes its participants all the way from Coolangatta Beach to Broadbeach. Two distances take place each year, which offer life savers a fantastic personal challenge and a great way to get active. The longer course features a 23km ski, 2.1km run, 3.5km swim, 6.1km board, and a final 7.1km run to the finish, whilst the shorter course comprises of a 10.5km ski, 2km swim, 3km board, and a final 5.5.km run to the finish line.

This spring, participate as an individual or with your own team, or come along to spectate and be part of all the action! The historical Coolangatta Gold is one of the perfect times to visit the Gold Coast, and offers an electric atmosphere that all ages can enjoy.

The Coolangatta Gold will take place over two days on October 6 and October 7 - you can be sure not to miss it by booking with Regency on the Beach, where we offer affordable Palm Beach holiday accommodation near the beautiful Coolangatta Beach!
