Melanoma March

Coolangatta’s annual ‘Melanoma March’ returns again in hopes to raise awareness for one of Australia’s most threatening types of cancer, and it’s perfect opportunity to show your support. This community event invites locals on an uplifting 4 km walk along Coolangatta Beach, as well as a fun celebration at The Strand in Coolangatta for all of those who participate. It’s not only a great way to raise awareness and show your support, but also a fun way to get in shape and meet others.

Melanoma is widely-known as “Australia’s national cancer”. Both Australia and New Zealand share frighteningly-high melanoma rates, and the best way to decrease these rates is through raising awareness. 1 in 14 men and 1 in 24 women in Australia are estimated to be diagnosed with melanoma in their lifetime, and it’s now become the most common cancer amongst young Australians.

The Melanoma March - now in its 4th year - dedicates its efforts to raising awareness for check-ups as well as treatments. The difference of knowing about melanoma can save a life, where if found at an early stage it can be completely cured with simple treatments.

This 2018, the Melanoma March invites all of its participants to wear brand new coloured wristbands: green if you’re facing your own melanoma struggle, orange if you are remembering a loved one who was a victim of melanoma, or yellow if you’re showing support for anyone you know that’s affected by melanoma.

Join in to show your support at this year’s Melanoma March on March 4, beginning at 7 am at The Strand in Coolangatta. Meet others who are dealing with melanoma and enjoy yourself at the same time!
